What Is Extractions?

A dental extraction (also referred to as tooth extraction, exodontia, exodontics, or informally, tooth pulling) is the removal of teeth from the dental alveolus (socket) in the alveolar bone.

Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, but most commonly to remove teeth which have become unrestorable through tooth decay, periodontal disease, or dental trauma, especially when they are associated with toothache. Sometimes wisdom teeth are impacted (stuck and unable to grow normally into the mouth) and may cause recurrent infections of the gum (pericoronitis). In orthodontics if the teeth are crowded, sound teeth may be extracted (often bicuspids) to create space so the rest of the teeth can be straightened.

Give us a call with any questions you may have about extractions. Dr. Ladani and his team make every effort to make you as comfortable as possible during your dental visits.

Tongue Tie Procedure

Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) is a condition present at birth that restricts the tongue’s range of motion.

With tongue-tie, an unusually short, thick or tight band of tissue (lingual frenulum) tethers the bottom of the tongue’s tip to the floor of the mouth, so it may interfere with breastfeeding. Someone who has tongue-tie might have difficulty sticking out his or her tongue. Tongue-tie can also affect the way a child eats, speaks and swallows.

Sometimes, tongue-tie may not cause problems. Some cases may require a simple surgical procedure for correction.

Frenectomy

The labial frenum connects the inside upper lip to the gum area near the front teeth, posing potential orthodontic and hygiene issues. When the labial frenum extends too near the gum line, it can affect the spacing and growth of a patient’s upper two front teeth. Although many parents and patients worry about the gap for cosmetic reasons.

Signs And Symptoms Of Tongue-Tie

Signs of limited tongue mobility may include difficulty raising the tongue to the upper teeth, problems moving it from side to side, inability to extend it past the lower front teeth, and a notched or heart-shaped appearance when the tongue is stuck out.

FAQ – How Can We Help For You?

Our oral surgery services include simple and surgical tooth extractions, wisdom tooth removal, bone grafting, dental implant placement, and other in-office surgical procedures. Performing these services in-house means you receive coordinated care from a team that knows your complete dental history without the inconvenience of being referred to an outside surgical center.

We offer local anesthesia for all surgical procedures, ensuring you feel no pain. For patients with dental anxiety or for more complex procedures, sedation options may be discussed during your consultation. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities, and our team will work with you to determine the most appropriate level of anesthesia for your procedure.

Recovery time varies depending on the procedure. A simple tooth extraction typically heals within 1–2 weeks. Wisdom tooth removal generally takes 3–5 days for initial recovery. Bone grafting and implant surgery can take several months for complete internal healing (osseointegration). We provide detailed recovery instructions and are available by phone if you have concerns during healing.

Bone grafting is sometimes needed before implant placement when there is insufficient bone volume in the jaw to support an implant. This can occur due to long-term tooth loss, gum disease, or trauma. A bone graft adds volume and density to the jaw, creating a stable foundation for the implant. The graft heals over 3–6 months before the implant is placed.

If you receive only local anesthesia, you may be able to drive yourself home. However, if you receive any form of sedation, you will need a responsible adult to drive you and stay with you for several hours post-procedure. Please arrange this in advance and let our team know at the time of scheduling. Your safety after leaving our office is just as important to us as the surgery itself.
